The Measure of a man, Barack Obama

What is the measure of a man? Is Barack Obama our man or is John McCain? Let’s review this.  I received a letter yesterday from a white neighbor of mine that just so happen to be in the neighborhood looking for people that would be willing to  put up signs of Barack Obama in their yards. I didn’t have one, so she offered to go get some for me and then I would place them in the yard and on my vehicle.

She was very angry at a lot of the responses from some of the white neighbors that refused to get involved with the campaign process. Out of that conversation that we shared, I would like to give you some food for thought regarding this election process.

Just in case you hadn’t heard….. From Fort Worth Star Telegram

What is John McCain were a former president of the Harvard Law Review?

What is Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?

What is Mccain were still married to the first woman that he said “I do” to?

What if Obama were  the candidate who left his first wife, after she no longer measured up to his standards. (I’m adding) What if Michelle Obama were Barack Obamas, ex-mistress) ?

What if Michelle Obama were a wife who not only became addicted to pain killers, but acquired them illegally throught her charitable organization?

What if Cindy Mccain graduated from Harvard? What if Obama were a member of the Keating 5? What if Mccain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?

If these questions reflected our reality, do you really believe this elections numbers would be as close as they are?

This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes the positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes the negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

Let’s not forget, What if Barack Obama had an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?

Would Barack Obama be able have his numbers as high as they are if any of McCains bloopers or Palins blunders applied to his life? You answer that. Because that’s exactly what they would be called. Bloopers and Blunders. They would apply to the measure of Obama at all costs.

Are we voting for Barack Obama because he is black

Senator Obama has handled his campaign like a pro…

Nobody does it better than Obama!!!!!!!!

Poll: Obama Gains in States That Went for Bush

Poll: Obama Gains in States That Went for Bush

Check out the polls. For some it may be an encouraging fact, for others a big disappointment. Many want to know why race is an issue regarding Obama winning the presidency.

it is important to talk about race today in this country, not tomorrow, but today. If we don’ find a solution for getting along, then we will be lost.  We need people to understand this race issue is real. Crossing this boundary is imperative. Not in an attempt to stir things up for a negative impact, but to get the races talking.

I see so much tension on the internet and in the media that shows the stress of many people that will not be happy about Barack winning. As many efforts that have been made in an attempt to get the ball rolling on topics of racism have been stunted. My Obama blogs are not receiving much response. Possibly due to the discomfort level that is shared by many blacks and whites. I have not heard from blacks either. If I have, they have not spoken and informed me of their race.

People write and ask, Ericka, why do you always talk about race? Isn’t there more to talk about than race? And I say no, because it all goes back to race. In this country it always does. My protesting was the one thing that started me to see the racism in this country. I read many of the view where I was  being called “stupid nigger, go home” it was disheartening to see so many people still hated blacks. I can’t say that I was shocked, but just hearing those words again were frightening.

It lead me to open a forum for discussion and I have gotten some replies. All of my writing, including my professional career, will all lead back to race in one form or another. We can’t see each other colorless. If people saw me as a colorless woman then that would be great, but they haven’t, I’m always called that black girl, or the black woman over there, or the dumb black bit** whatever you call me. It still carries a color.
